Systems for Training Audio Perception
نویسندگان
چکیده
Visually impaired users often have to get familiar with numerous audio signals, which help them to navigate in space. The learning process is often time consuming and requires a human guide (or assistant) while moving through (testing) space. Orientation and mobility training can also expose individuals to significant hazards due to the unpredictable physical variables present in real-world navigation activities, such as crossing a street. In this paper, we present a set of audio navigation systems whose role is to increase informational audio density presented to users by simple training applications. These training systems naturally result in advanced applications, mostly based on virtual reality, which simulate the real world and training space and therefore help the user easily learn to handle common auditory situations such as zebra crossings, social spaces (banks, railway stations), etc.

A Comparison between Spatial Audio Listener Training and Repetitive Practice
Despite the existence of various timbral ear training systems, relatively little work has been carried out into listener training for spatial audio. Additionally, listener training in published studies has tended to extend only to repetitive practice without feedback. In order for a generalised training system for spatial audio listening skills to prove effective, it must demonstrate that learn...
متن کاملAudiovisual Interval Size Estimation Is Associated with Early Musical Training
Although pitch is a fundamental attribute of auditory perception, substantial individual differences exist in our ability to perceive differences in pitch. Little is known about how these individual differences in the auditory modality might affect crossmodal processes such as audiovisual perception. In this study, we asked whether individual differences in pitch perception might affect audiovi...
متن کاملAudio-Tactile Integration and the Influence of Musical Training
Perception of our environment is a multisensory experience; information from different sensory systems like the auditory, visual and tactile is constantly integrated. Complex tasks that require high temporal and spatial precision of multisensory integration put strong demands on the underlying networks but it is largely unknown how task experience shapes multisensory processing. Long-term music...
متن کاملAudio Motor Training at the Foot Level Improves Space Representation
Spatial representation is developed thanks to the integration of visual signals with the other senses. It has been shown that the lack of vision compromises the development of some spatial representations. In this study we tested the effect of a new rehabilitation device called ABBI (Audio Bracelet for Blind Interaction) to improve space representation. ABBI produces an audio feedback linked to...
متن کاملStructural boundary perception in popular music
The automatic extraction of musical structure from audio is an important aspect for many music information retrieval (MIR) systems. The criteria on which structural elements in music are defined in MIR systems is often not clearly stated but typically stem from (music) theoretical or signal-based properties. In many cases, however, perceptual-based criteria are the most relevant and systems nee...
